Hello sweet people

I feel it is about time for a small update again, its been a while. And what a year. I am still on sick leave, doctors orders. But don't worry, all is well and I have had a wonderful, calm Christmas with my family.

I hope to post some more work here, in time, personal work as a part of my getting well process. We shall see. Until then, you can check out my other blog Her Green Adventures, if you are interested in my other small doings on the road to recovery.

Little Autumn Update

Hello lovely people, just a small update to say I will take a few months holiday from my blogging (its already been a while since I've posted, but now it's official) :)
I am a little ill and need some time to get back on track, this shall be done with plenty of autumn hikes, buckets of herbal tea and calm. I might post a doodle now and then, for your entertainment, if I am able.

My garden in Trondheim (tiny though it is) is flowering!

Its still quite chilly, and people every are sniffling.

Sketches and the beginnings of finals are pilling up on my walls in my little studio room i Marienberg Gård. We extended the deadline by a little over a month (after a meeting with the author, revising the text and images). Thats a relief, as I am just getting into it and really enjoying it. (As it is my first children's book I also lack a concept of a proper time frame, though I feel I aught to get the hang of it by now, but I'm learning!)

Some of the images from my childrens book, they are finals, but yet to be clad in color.

It such a lovely project, but as it is my first childrens book to be published, I am a tad nervous (though very happy). The deadline approaches (June). Hopefully all will be done and dusted by then. I have to do the general design of the book as well, placing text and organizing the pages in InDesigne. It will be a new adventure, and I'll have to contact my dear Graphic Design friends for aid.

Such a long time no blogging, sweet people!

I have been busy with tea, Trondheim Travels, Pens and Pencils as well as some personal business that in ways put everything else on hold.
But I am back now, after many a Cirque du Soleil marathon, and some clowning costumes parties I am, among other projects, doing some white faced Cards this December.

Winter Wonderland is here, in Trondheim it was far below 0 degrees Celsius. Such a dreamy old town, for whom I am lucky to be pointing my frosty red snout to. The magic move will happen in February -11. Such Bliss!

October Greetings to you all. It has been a busy month, sadly not Dreamy Drawing Wise. But I feel this is changing soon! I love my work so much, it is like missing a dear lover when I can't sit by my desk and draw.

We had our first snowfall a week ago, and it was so magical! I can hardly wait til it settles down for good, the dark long months are so much brighter when the stars mirror themselves in the snow.

A little Solveig Sketch, I am still working on this book, and shall start posting more sketches from it! I am refining some of the characters, I want them to be memorable and have a clear personality, so far I am finding it to be a merry challenge.

I have also added my Teddy Rabbit, Jan Banan. He is a cheeky and wise character and I had a feeling he wanted to be in there too.

I have just come back from the most amazing fairytale trip to the midlands, or Trondheim aka Town of Mustaches and home to my heart. I am not a city person, but I am a Trondheim person.

I am now a quarter of a century old, and it tastes like summer berries on freshly baked biscuits of joy.

Thank you Darling Odd-Wiking Rahlff for taking this beautifluffed photo, you always make us smile.

And thank you Darling Pippapuff and all you other people out there, you makes my dreams come alive and together we make Pies of Prosperity (and blueberries).

Heavenly garden calms.

This is my little hobby this summer, I have never grown vegetables before. It is very exciting! I think I could get used to this.
It so nice to live in this haven of a garden, though there are naughty cars and tall buildings near by. If it weren't for the amazing mountains and the sea nearby (the air, even in the city, smells so pure), I don't know what I would do!
I still look forwards to a studio in le woods one day.

May is finally here, its been quite chilly. But now the leaves have sprouted like little sparkling emeralds in the warming sun. And I am planting leeks in the garden, hopefully some sugar snap peas too.

A dear friend of mine had his 24th a while ago, here is a dancing fella for a birthday card. This friend of mine plays in S trindes Promenade Orchester, they are a truly amazing bunch of joy spreaders. And I had the honor of making a button design to adorn their cheerful outfits once.

I am currently working on some fruity gatherings of colorful ink and watercolor for the installation piece I am working on with Frank Aakvik. His work is looking amazing and I can't wait for you to see it all done!

Beasts Emerging from Hibernation (me included)

Hello all yee beauties out there,
some months are just slower than others. Many an apology for lack of updates, but as all blogging people know this happens :)

Since my meeting with the Art Cafe/Bar peeps many a tricksy thing has happened. I have been asked to do a mural in the entrance ("do whatever you like" is the brief).
Basically there are just two guys, with some years experience though, that bought this old gallery with the vision of making it into an arty creative hang out for people of all crazy kinds. They do most of the work themselves, as they have a slim budget. But it looks amazing already, I'll post more photos when appropriate.

Frank Aakvik is also doing up one of the rooms, so our collaborative installation project has been put slightly on hold (I'm sure he will post one of his own little rants).

The place is named "Dama di", translating into "Your girl/lady" which makes for all kinds of amusing, at least in norwegian.

Bent and Ronny, the guys doing up "your girl" (snicker) are no fans of latte and the likes, so I might have to wait for that old coffee machine. At least there is a tea part in the hallway.

After living in Cornwall I learned that tea is (mostly) the answer to almost all things:

You meet a cheeky lad or an old tattermedalion, invite them for a cup of tea.
You are comforting a sad lass, offer her tea and a hug.
It's chilly and snowy and you have a runny nose, have a cup of tea.
You need a break from paintsplatter, have a cup of tea.
Its a warm summer eve, still, have some tea.
Celebrate with cake, and a cup of tea.
Ponder life and talk with a lazy bee, with a cup of tea.
The world is blue and rainy, have a cup of tea.
You are happy and blissful, have a cup of tea.
Its the end of the world as one knows it, have some tea and take a deep breath.

It is so much snow outside, I adooooore it. I even went skiing today for the first time in 10 years (skiing in the woods, not slalom which I consider quite different and have been doing more often these later years). It is so amazingly beautiful here, I want to show you more images (soon, soon).

I am still working on my interactive installation illustration for the collaborative work with Frank Aakvik. Some fruit filled images might find their way here soon.

This red lady is my guide of strength and comes in handy at times, I love hear red hair with best regards from my ink pencils, such vibrant colors. I surely heart inks.

A little sketch for a portrait I have been wanting to do for some time now. Tilda Swinton, who stars in one of my favorite movies "Orlando" (based on the novel by Virginia Woolf) is absolutely fantastic. I love her and her work.
I just bought the soundtrack for the film Orlando, it is so beautiful, I never tire of it as it feeds my spirit like nothing else (Gives me goosebumps, as I always get when I see or hear something that is unspeakably beautiful). The amazing period costumes in the film is an inspiration for anyone. I hope to read the book soon as well (anyone here read it?)

Also, tooth trolls and sneeze goblins have pinned me down into my pillowcases in a most unheard of manner for a while now, it is hard to be creative at such times, the winter sun often soothes my mind though, and I gobble down orange juice and tea in order to heal.

Merry hellos to one and all.

Wanderings in snow and SUN (it's been so long since I saw it properly for more than a short hour) Today I could actually feel it warming my skin, it is a big loving light bulb that lad. Amazing :)

Since Pip was here the house has seen some what of a split pin puppety crazy (might be because they miss her so) Some only half way done, staring at me from various places on and around my desk. It is quite koselig actually, they are a merry bunch.

I just found out that the planned release date of the childrens book I have been illustrating is august (which is also my birthday month) so I am much ruffled fluffed and happy about this and will be working with the final rendered illustrations up until June.

Currently I have been commissioned by a close friend, Designer Maker Frank Aakvik, to make some backdrops that are to be projected onto a wall as part of an installation "Det lekende rommet" ("The playful room").
There will also be moving elements for which I'll make the texture and surface of (leaves and birds among other). Its an installation for children at the age of 5-10 years, it is also interactive so I am very excited about it!
The deadline is 15 of April, and the installation is planned to be fully ready the end of May. (you'll probably see some of it on his blog/site by then) I'll be sure to post work in progress (leaves, I love leaves!).

My dear Pippa left for england a week ago, but it was such a joy and inspiration having one of my brightest lights here every evening, drawing, drinking kakao and watching Chicago again and again and again..and well, again I suppose. Until late into the latest hours with tea leaves and natters.

While inspiration lingers and my hopes are high (especially with thought of taking a trip to England in March) I hereby present some snaps of my fluffed up little work area, filled with papers and images from favorite friends/illustrators. I always feel hugged sitting here, its such a
luxury being surrounded by things that give you joy and makes you want to create.

So this is the little darling with color on, I decided to color her hair red so she will stand out in the story, in several ways.
For you who didn't know it, this is a character for a children's book commission I received. It's about a little girl who is a foster child and the story tells the tale of how she figures this out and deals with it. It is meant to raise the subject and help other children in the same position.

Solveig has a hard time sleeping, the nights are restless. The winter is storming and we all need extra cuddles.
It feels like I've been underground (or snow) for so long. My trip to Trondheim was lovely, the people were lovely (as always) and New years eve was so peaceful, me and pip got some funny looks as we had decided to only drink kakao (or water), the whole night. Haha, it was wonderfab and very entertaining.
Me and Solveig will see you later as we both have a deadline to meet in February, expect many posts of thoughts and sketches.

I am cutting and posting and sleeping in between.
I have some long shifts at Noa Noa up until Christmas eve, so I will be a little occupied. Pippa is coming to celebrate with us next week, and I am so exited! I hope for plenty of white fluff from the sky til then.
Also, I have dived into my children's book commission, which is scary and what I have dreamed of for a very long time. But I promise too resurface with a regular interval with a cuppa and post pictures of snow, cake, snowy cakes and drawings for you to puzzle over.

It's the third Sunday in advent, and we have just eaten a huuuuuuge breakfast. I'm listeing to all sorts of childish songs and singing by my desk, happy as a bumblebee. I am making cards to send off to various people of joy, also to sell as prints on Etsy. They are not necessarily Christmas cards, just cards holding the spirit of this fantastic time of year. It gets dark around two here, and it is like a different world. Much music, candles and hot drinks makes for warm merry hearts.

Hello all ye loveliest

A snowy greeting from the northern lady. Yes indeed, it has been snowing! This last Sunday a pretty white blanket fell over Bodø. Today they lit the Christmas tree down town and I am skipping about like a child. And then falling fast asleep since there is hardly any light here, it gets dark around two-three pm.
I do miss the beach loving life in Cornwall at times and shed some tears, I think it has grown its own little place in my heart. Happily the talented Miss Pippa Apple-pip (a little piece of England) will flutter her wings and bring her sweet self up here for le holidays.

The spine is really beautiful, it's strange thinking about all that which one is made up of. Learning a little about the alexander technique makes me think more about this and appreciate that it is all working so well.

Now its way past my bedtime. Keep ones eyes, teeth and ears clean and sharp for more updates. I have many a project lying on my desk waiting to show itself.
On Thursday I am meeting with some designers and people in the creative industry, there is an opening I am invited to. So I am exited and a little nervous. Maybe I'll meet some new peeps I can natter and network with about my art cafe.

I am feeling sleepy, like this leaf, making myself ready for winter. The last days have been exiting with regards to planning my Art Cafe, today we went looking at a wonderful place that has been for rent for some time. It is in a up and coming creative area of my little city, so it is all almost too exiting and I am positively skipping about until I suddenly seem to fall asleep.

One of the things I really really love about living here north is the pure water. Even tap water, it is so clear. I've only had about three cups of tea in two or three days, that's amazing for a sencha addict as moi. Always have a glass of clearness near by when one is drawing and messing with ink (can be handy for many reasons). The wolves seem to have moved into my winsor ink bottle. And some new images are on their way with many a dancing fellow. Also it is soon time to dive into the world of a child named Solveig.

I went taddling near the mountains above my city with someone who taught me new tricks with a very handsome camera today, who I have been so overly lucky in borrowing.

I love living here.

Cupcakes and a bit of sun

This lynx lady is luring round the woods of northern Norway, so beware. I will spend the weekend dabbing some color on her, hopefully this will make her cherry nose happy.

Today I watches cupcakes bake in the oven. I didn't know it could be so exiting! Yet soothing and peaceful. Ah, the tiny hot chocolate smelling pleasures in life..

Apart from this lovely little event Mr. Sunny decided to peek in my window this morning and I had a late shift at Noa Noa. I love late shifts and lounging in my boudoir until lunch (or breakfast rather..).

Polkadots and a golden mini deer anyone?

This is a new place in Bodø, Farmors Stue (loosly translated to Grandmothers Living room). I love the old fashioned interior and homely food they serve, it's the only place in my city where I can sit for hours..

..with hot chocolate, some pencils, paper and a good friend (yes, it's Mr. Mountain Goat), another great way to spend lazy Thursdays.

And this fella is quite happy too its my day off tomorrow and on Saturday. Time to spend at my other favorite job with books, stories and pictures while listening to music from Cirque du Soleil.

'Ones little Boudoir'

Hello and many an autumn greetings to yee lads and lassies,
the sun is paler and the golden colors are turning to white and blue. The sun is setting around four and I have taken to candles and logs. I just wanted to show this you ol' desk that was my grandfathers, the only other artist in my family who took a higher education (Fine Art). I never got a chance to meet him, but I think about him often and if got a chance to meet any person, dead or alive, it would be him. He has the most beautiful self-portrait in my grans living room, where he is smoking a pipe (like me on a rare occasion toddling taddling round in woodlands). Working at his desk is most inspiring and hearth warming. I think I might remove the tired brown paint and oil it to restore it to it's glory.

My dear chest of drawers, another family piece. The thing I love the most next to drawing is drawing wearing the most dreamy dresses, inside such fabrics one finds the enjoyment of life.

My logs live in here, unfortunately they have a very short lifespan but poof up in great exitement, warmth and smoke as they pass over to the ashy heaven of logs.

Apologies for the late update, I have been a nib with no ink on lately. But this will now change, as I have decided to start enjoying my work again. Sitting here at my grandfathers desk looking out at the night sky (a cuppa and this eve would have made it complete) I realized that perhaps I had forgotten that. I mean, that was my intention in the beginning. To make a work out of a passion. I just forgot to enjoy working with my commissions. Of course stage fright is good, it keeps you on your toes. Only, it may not be good to get completely paralyzed, like a rabbit in a roll of marzipan? I keep smiling when I think of this sillynillyness I have been up to lately, thank the great scones and strawberry preserve for my artist friends who keep inspiring me.

So now I have decided to post more random artwork of pure enjoyments here (why am I so slow at times?). And I hope you will enjoy them too.

Now off to get that cup of curly leaves (I'm thinking blueberry). Mmm.

Autumn storms and hot apple juice

Hello sweet people,

I feel I owe you a small update (I am still practicing this blogging, it's very exiting). I am still pondering away on my wonderful children's book commission. I feel very privileged as the publisher and author has given me pretty much free reigns on this one. For my first real commission, yes, I am lucky.

I have been sending some sketches to the publisher, so fingers crossed. My first deadline is now set, dummy book and three to four colored illustrations is to be done by February. I am feeling the preasure to really dive ino this, it is always an exiting feeling. And I have been missing it since I left University, where there was always a gush of creativity and a tad of nervousness as there was always a project and a deadline not far away. It makes me smile and giggle as I think of my cheeky classmates.

I found a handsome northerner that will help me update my web-page, and for that I am grateful, as my dreamweaver skills need dusting.

Otherwise the autumn storms are approaching, I love it as it is so refreshing. Perhaps the pure cheeky winds and rain will bring some new inspiration. I'm also lucky to have a room (where my studio is at the moment) on the second floor, with a view of our big tree filled garden. The colorful leaves are peeking happily in through my window with mountains in the background (all I wish now is for the motorway to become a small pathway with cute bikers on).

A hot chocolate cream whisking hello to you all.

Here's another little update from the illustrating lady up north.

I just finished a collaborative exhibition with three friends (LTD, we call ourselves) and it was a huge success! It was took a little effort, but once it was up an running all was good. We were eleven people in total exhibiting. A friend of mine even came all the way from England to take part in it, the lovely lady Pippa, who I am a big time fan of. There were lots of different things being exhibited; poster, photo, sculptures, 3D, illustration, digital, film and more. I even sold a few images, so yay for LTD.
Next year we plan a even bigger one and hopefully a little more organized one, it will be our 6th, so that's quite wonderful I think.

On a more current note, I received the final script for the Children's Book I am working on about two weeks ago. It was perfect, sensitive and well written! A little longer text than I am used to working with for children this age, but it will be a wonderful challenge. So more about that this following week as it is really getting started now.

Also I am in the beginning of (possibly) starting an Art Cafe in Bodø! Wahey. I am writing a business plan and expanding my network by meeting wonderfully creative people.
Some of the people are from the county and they are helping me with all the fiddling details and where to get future funding. This is a long term project, and I don't expect anything big to happen yet, I've set my self two years to see where this is going. But it is looking good, and during our LTD exhibition I noticed there was a gap in the marked for a meeting place for young, unestablished as well as established creative minds.
Very exiting, so hang around to follow the process :)

Not to forget, I have finally arranged a meeting with the agent that contacted me, it will be after Christmas, in February I am London bound (very exited about that too).

But now I am knackered after a lot of steaming clothes at my wonderful part time job, Noa Noa.

A little update

I feel it is time for a small hello, even if I don't have that much to say :)

I am currently settled down nicely in Bodø, home of my childhood. It may not be the most exiting place when it comes to culture (I have plans regarding that, saving it for a later post though) but nothing beats it's stunning landscapes of sea, mountains and forests. A place to expand ones mind.

Something exiting happened the other day. I was contacted by an agent that I actually would want to work with. They had seen my work at the New Designers show and wanted to (possibly) include me in their expanding creative team. They were very professional in their approach (something previous agents have lacked) and I might have a meeting with them in London in the near future. I wont say more than that, since it is still early days, but I am secretly very exited and all fingers and pencils are crossed.

Also I am working with a collaborative exhibition of young talent here in the north of Norway. LTD (limited but also the initials of the founders) are exhibiting the work of 10 young creatives in all areas of the industry from graphic to sculptures to photo etc. This is the 5th year and we are aiming higher by publishing a catalog with this years talents as well as postcards and amazing promo. Its very exiting and time consuming! When we get our stuff up and running online, I will post links (and photos!).

Also the children's book is coming along nicely with character sketches and I can't wait to see the final script and start the actual work and design of the book. It has been put somewhat on hold because of the organising of the exhibition (aslo I am waiting to meet the author/publisher again to get the all ok to start).

So, yes, things are happening and it feels lovely.

A new place

Welcome to my new blog, as I am now in possession of a Bachelor in Illustration and on my way to be a fully functioning illustrator, it was also time to start a new blog.
Three years of wonderful and challenging study on the BA (hons) Illustration degree at at Falmouth University has come to an end, I have passed it, my diploma is on the way by post (which I will hang up on my wall with pride). Thank you Falmouth, it has been mostly wonderful, I hope to visit you again soon. I will miss the amazing tutors, my terribly talented fellow students and the trips to the beach.

It feels very good, sad, and a tad scary.

I have entered work to New Designer this year, which is quite exiting. But I sadly wont be able to be there during the exhibition. www.newdesigner.com

I have also been commissioned to illustrate a children's book here in Norway. The author that approached me, who is also starting his own publishing house, want to fill a gap in the marked regarding literature for and about foster children at a young age (2-6 years). I have just read the very first rough draft, and I really like it, it is well written and inspiring and I spent the most part of yesterday, after talked to the author, researching and fell asleep dreaming of rendering the first illustration with pastels and linseed oil. Some bits of sketches will be up soon.

I am also reworking some earlier books, mostly the badger book "Not Today". After showing it to Walker Books, Mantra Lingua, and Bloomsbury I have learned more about what the industry expects of you and what they are looking for. All of the art directors I met were wonderfully helpful, and very generous with their knowledge. I hope to perhaps work with some of them in the future. Though my base will be in Norway, I aim to visit London and the UK at least once a year, to gather inspiration and continue maintaining and building my network. That is after all where the beginning of my career as an illustrator began, and after four years I have many friends there and regard it as my second home.
Two of the publishers want me to send them the book "Not Today", so that is why I am fixing the dummy as well as doing some new art works for it. I aim to send it to the before Christmas.
The nice guy at Mantra Lingua offered to put me in touch with the agency Plum Pudding (I just love that name), again children's illustration. So making more work in this genera seems to be my starting point.

I will also update my website which currently only holds some work from my last year at the BA Illustration, non of it for children, as I focused more on the other areas of the marked at that time. This will also be more complete by the end of this year (when I get my head around dreamweaver).

I think that's all for now. I am almost melting here, though the sun isn't up in Trondheim at the moment, it is very very hot. The night train to Bodø will be lovely and cool.
